Monsoon becomes active again from today

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division has stated that the monsoon will become active again starting today (Tuesday).

The Division has predicted light to moderate rain across most parts of the country over the next two days, with the potential for heavy rain in some areas.

In its weather bulletin, the Division has highlighted the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain in certain locations across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as a few areas in Karnali and Madhes provinces.

Specifically, one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces may experience very heavy rainfall.

The bulletin has noted that regions such as Taplejung, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, and Tehrathum in Koshi Province are at high risk, while Rasuwa, Chitwan, Sindhupalchok, Dhading, Nuwakot, and Dolakha in Bagmati Province are also vulnerable.

In Gandaki Province, the risk is significant for Myagdi, Baglung, Kaski, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahun, Nawalparasi East, Lamjung, and Gorkha.

Similarly, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Palpa, Gulmi, Nawalparasi West, Dang, Banke, Bardia, Pyuthan, and Arghakhanchi in Lumbini Province are at high risk, as are Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Doti, and Baitadi in Sudurpaschim Province.

As the monsoon is expected to be particularly active during the night, there is an increased risk of flooding in urban and lowland areas.

Rising water levels in rivers, canals, and streams could affect transportation, it stated.
