Incessant rainfall spurs police patrols along Kathmandu’s riverbanks

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police have initiated riverbank patrols in the Kathmandu Valley due to a significant rise in water levels following continuous rainfall.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Mainali, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, stated that the patrols aim to prevent any incidents along the river corridors.

“We have mobilized police teams along the banks of rivers and streams to mitigate the risks of floods and inundations in nearby settlements,” Mainali said.

Police vehicles are now stationed along the Bagmati, Bishnumati, Manohara, and Hanumante rivers.

Despite the heightened water levels, no water-induced incidents have been reported in the valley so far.

Security personnel from all three districts in the valley are on standby.

The incessant rainfall has disrupted normal life in most districts across the country, with some areas experiencing inundation and landslides, according to the Police Headquarters.
