Copa America 2024: Canada advances to semifinals by defeating Venezuela



KATHMANDU: Canada has reached the semifinals of Copa America by defeating Venezuela in a tiebreaker.

In the quarterfinals held on Saturday morning, Canada triumphed over Venezuela 4-3 in a thrilling penalty shootout.

Venezuela was eliminated from the tournament after Wilker Angel missed a crucial penalty.

The match went to a tiebreaker after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Canada took an early lead in the 13th minute of the first half with a goal from Jakov Seflburg.

However, Venezuela equalized in the 64th minute with a goal from Salomón Rondón.

After neither team managed to score again, the match proceeded to a tiebreaker.

Canada will now face Argentina in the semifinals, scheduled for Wednesday.

In other quarterfinal matches, Colombia will play against Panama, and Uruguay will face Brazil on Sunday morning.
