After acquittal, Sandeep Lamichhane should be playing in the World Cup: NC lawmaker Sharma

KATHMANDU: Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, stated that cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane should be playing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup following his acquittal in a rape case.

Speaking at the parliamentary meeting on Thursday, lawmaker Sharma conveyed his best wishes to the Nepali national team participating in the World Cup.

“It was a different case while he was facing allegations and the case was sub judice, but now that the court has acquitted him, he should be representing Nepal in the World Cup,” said Sharma.

Sharma also questioned the government’s efforts to secure Lamichhane’s visa to the USA.

After the court acquitted Lamichhane, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) lifted his suspension, and the ICC permitted him to join Nepal’s T20 World Cup squad.

Despite this, Lamichhane’s visa application at the US Embassy in Kathmandu was denied twice.

The World Cup is currently being held in the USA and the West Indies.
