Trishuli bridge closed following cable snapping

NUWAKOT: The bridge over the Trishuli River at Bidur Municipality-6 in Nuwakot district has been completely shut down for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic after one of its four cables snapped, announced Rajan Shrestha, the Mayor of Bidur Municipality.

Constructed nearly 40 years ago during the development of the Devighat Hydropower Centre, the bridge has been a vital link for local communities.

However, concerns over its structural integrity arose when the cable issue was first detected in December last year. Since then, only two-wheel vehicles were permitted to pass through the bridge.

Mayor Shrestha has assured the public that efforts are underway to promptly repair the bridge, aiming to reopen it at the earliest opportunity.

In the meantime, the Municipality has advised drivers and pedestrians to utilize alternative routes via the bridges at Dhunibesi of Simchaur and Devighat.

The closure of the Trishuli bridge at Bidur Municipality-6 has disrupted the direct connection between Bidur Municipality-4 and Mandredhunga of Bidur-6, impacting travel routes leading to Tarakeshwar Rural Municipality and Dhadingbesi.

The closure of the bridge underscores the importance of timely infrastructure maintenance and highlights the challenges posed by aging infrastructure in rural areas.
