Candidates to file nominations for by-elections in Ilam-2 and Bhajang-1 today



KATHMANDU: As the date for the by-elections scheduled on April 27 in Ilam-2 and Bhajang-1 draws near, candidates vying for parliamentary seats are gearing up to officially enter the electoral fray by filing their nominations today.

According to the Election Commission, candidates are invited to file their nominations at the respective election offices between 10 am to 5 pm today.

This marks a crucial step in the electoral process, as contenders formally declare their candidacy for the upcoming by-elections.

Following the nomination filing process, the Election Commission has set a deadline for lodging complaints against the nominations, allowing concerned parties to address any grievances until 3 pm on Sunday.

Candidates who wish to withdraw their candidacy have until April 9 to do so, with the allocation of election symbols scheduled for the same day.

The by-elections, slated for April 27, will commence from 7 am to 5 pm, providing voters ample time to cast their ballots and participate in the democratic process.

Notable candidates contesting for the House of Representatives seat in Ilam-2 include:

  • Dambar Khadka from Nepali Congress
  • Suhang Nembang from CPN-UML
  • Milan Limbu from Rastriya Swatantra Party
  • Jeet Bahadur Rai from CPN (Unified Socialist)
  • Independent candidate Dakendra Thegemi representing the Identity-seeking group
  • Laxmi Gurung from Rastriya Prajatantra Party
  • Ganesh Chauhan from RPP Nepal
  • Prem Kumar Thamsuhang (Prem Deep) from Janamat Party

Additionally, CPN (Maoist Center) has declared its support for UML’s candidate, Suhang Nembang, in Ilam.

In Ilam-2, there will be 79 polling centers and 149 polling booths to facilitate the electoral process, while in Bhajang-1, 74 polling centers and 93 polling booths have been designated.

As the electoral landscape unfolds, these by-elections represent a pivotal moment for constituents to exercise their voting rights and shape the future political landscape of their constituencies.
