RUKUM PASCHIM: The construction of temporary shelters for earthquake survivors is progressing in Rukum Paschim, following the seismic event that struck Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts on November 3, 2023, with its epicenter at Ramidanda in Jajarkot.

Despite the passage of two months since the devastating earthquake, a significant number of survivors still find refuge under tarpaulin sheets. While 10,423 temporary houses have been built across the district in this period, there remains a substantial need for more facilities, as noted by Acting Chief District Officer Prabesh Baduwal.

Currently, 7,087 houses are under construction in the district. The distribution of temporary huts is uneven, with 4,041 being built in Sanibheri rural municipality, the highest in number, and only 24 in Musikot municipality. Other areas include 3,014 in Aathbiskot municipality, 2,289 in Chaurjahari municipality, 938 in Triveni rural municipality, and 117 in Bafikot rural municipality.

To support the rebuilding efforts, a total of Rs 590.2 million has been allocated to the local disaster relief fund from the District Disaster Management Fund, benefiting 23,608 individuals. The police have documented details of 27,682 beneficiaries across the district, with expectations that this number may increase as data collection efforts continue, according to the District Administration Office.
