KATHMANDU: Kunti Moktan, a veteran singer, has been in the music industry for more than four decades. During her prime time in this field, many singers and artists who are prevalent today weren’t even born.

Many singers established themselves in the music industry by singing Kunti Moktan’s songs in reality shows that were in the market long before they (the new singers) were born.

The songs she sang decades ago still resonate today. Among numerous tracks, there’s one that continues to hum through the walls of many homes—the song ‘Khutta Taandai Gara.’

Although it had its prime time, the song ‘Khutta Taandai Gar’ was part of the ‘Kriti’ album released in 2000, which gained public attention due to reality shows and various other reasons during a period of some lost time.

When love songs were prevalent in the market, Kunti requested lyricist Buddhabir Lama to write in a different style, which led to the creation of this song, Kunti revealed.

Kunti mentioned to Khabarhub, “I had a lot of love songs with Buddhabir Lama. Now, because he was asked to write differently, he brought this song to me.”

Among all of Kunti’s hit songs, ‘Khutta Taandai Gara’ is part of the album ‘Kriti.’ However, this song had faced ban Nepal Television’s ban.

Kunti states, “Back then, the situation of the country was similar. This song was deemed political, leading to its ban by Nepal Television. But the ban didn’t have any other impact.”

She reveals that after the ban for political reasons, the production side transformed this song into a dance number. She adds, “There was controversy in the lyrics ‘Khutta Taandai Gara.’ We intended to divert the audience’s attention towards the end and make it danceable. Then, the ban was lifted, and it aired on TV as well.”
