KATHMANDU: The meeting of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party’s Secretariat is scheduled to take place today.

According to Jagannath Khatiwada, the Deputy General Secretary of the party, the meeting will convene at 11 a.m. at the party’s central office in Alok Nagar, Kathmandu.

The meeting, which was supposed to prepare for the selection of candidates for the upcoming National Assembly elections, was postponed on Friday, citing a need for further preparedness from the party’s side.

Khatiwada shared that discussions regarding the party’s statute amendments will be held in the meeting following the finalization of the list of candidates for the National Assembly.

He mentioned that among the candidates recommended by various district and sister organizations, selection criteria for candidates will be based on their contribution to party organization, dedication at the grassroots level in respective areas, popularity, and capability, rather than solely focusing on prominent leaders who haven’t had opportunities.

The Election Commission has set January 8 as the deadline for candidate nominations for the upcoming National Assembly election scheduled for January 25.
