Lalitpur: Floods in Nakkhu River last week inflicted huge loss of life and property in the district.

Many residents living nearby the coastal areas are now living elsewhere and working to rehabilitate themselves.

However, they are more worried that an epidemic will start due to the animal remains accumulated in the Nakkhu River.

The Nakhkhu River had washed away many animals. Due to the flood, the sewerage also burst open.

The flood survivors of Lalitpur say that they are worried that this has increased the risk of an epidemic.

Milan Yesmaili Magar of Ward No. 4 said the Lalitpur Municipal Corporation applied medicine to reduce the stench but is very difficult to work in the riverside slums.

Since the medicine was sprayed the stench has reduced but it has not completely disappeared.

If the stench continues like this, there is fear that an epidemic will spread. Ganesh KC, President of Ward No. 13, said that the municipal police have been continuously spraying medicine in the river for the past three days.

Though power supply has resumed running water is still a problem. Renuka Limbu, who lives in Ward No. 25, said that it is difficult to work because of the smell of the river which becomes severe when the wind blows and the sun shines in the afternoon.

“I am afraid, I might fall sick,” Limu said.
