Chief Election Commissioners from SAARC nations meet with President Paudel



KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioners from the Forum of the Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBoSA) are currently in Kathmandu for the Forum’s 12th annual meeting.

Today, they paid a courtesy call on President Ramchandra Paudel at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas.

During the meeting, President Paudel emphasized that periodic elections are fundamental to democracy, ensuring citizens’ access to and ownership of the State. He highlighted the importance of making certain that every election is free and impartial.

The President expressed hope that the Conference would advance impartiality, accountability, and fairness in elections across South Asia.

“I hope that the Forum will continue to contribute to promoting and strengthening democracy through free, fair, reliable, and transparent election processes,” he stated.

As the President of the Chair country of the Forum, Paudel reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to achieving the collective goals of FEMBoSA and tackling challenges together.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya briefed the President about the Conference, according to the Office of the President.

The meeting was attended by Chief Election Commissioners and representatives from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives, and other member countries.

The two-day FEMBoSA event, hosted by the Election Commission of Nepal, was inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday.
