KATHMANDU: Chief Minister (CM) of Karnali Province, Yamlal Kandel, is set to take a vote of confidence today.
A meeting of the Provincial Assembly has been scheduled for 3 pm to conduct this vote.
To initiate the vote of confidence, Chief Minister Kandel submitted a formal request to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat last Saturday.
This vote comes in the wake of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML coalition at the center and the Maoist Center’s withdrawal of support from the government.
Under constitutional provisions, if any party in the coalition withdraws support, the Chief Minister is required to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days.
In the 40-member state assembly, Kandel needs 21 votes to secure the confidence vote.
The assembly includes 14 members from the ruling Nepali Congress, 10 from the CPN-UML, 13 from the Maoist Center, one from the Unified Socialist, one from the RPP, and one independent member.
