UML informs parliament of withdrawal from govt, will assume opposition role

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has officially informed the federal parliament’s secretariat about its decision to withdraw support from the government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Following the resignation of its eight ministers on Wednesday, UML will now assume the role of the opposition party in parliament.

The party has formed an alliance with the Nepali Congress to oust the Dahal-led government and establish a new administration.

Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula sent a letter to the parliament secretariat, stating that the party no longer supports the PM Dahal-led government.

In response, PM Dahal is expected to seek a vote of confidence from parliament.

Should PM Dahal step down, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is set to become the new prime minister, according to an agreement reached with the Nepali Congress.
