CPN-UML withdraws support from Lumbini government

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has withdrawn its support for the Lumbini provincial government.

Five UML ministers in the provincial assembly have tendered their resignations.

Jokh Bahadur Mahara of CPN (Maoist Center) was appointed Chief Minister of the province on Chaitra 23 with the support of 48 lawmakers.

At the time, Mahara was backed by 29 UML lawmakers, 10 from the Maoist Center, three from JSP, four from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, one from CPN (Unified Socialist), and one independent lawmaker.

With the UML withdrawing its support, CM Mahara has now lost his majority.

The CPN-UML’s decision to withdraw support follows the formation of an alliance with the Nepali Congress at the federal level.

According to the agreement between the two parties, UML will now lead the government in Lumbini province.
