Chief Minister Yadav fails the floor test, JSP-led alliance garners 50 votes

The Chief Minister of Madhes, Saroj Kumar Yadav, has lost the vote of confidence, leading to the downfall of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP)-led government in the province. After failing to garner a vote of confidence in the meeting held in Janakpur-based Madhes Provincial Assembly on Wednesday, Yadav had to step down. In the 107-member Provincial Assembly, Yadav could only secure 50 votes in favor of the confidence motion he had sought, while 53 votes were cast against it. To sustain the government, the Chief Minister needed at least 54 votes.

Government unveils 16th five-year plan

The government unveiled the full text of the 16th Five-Year Plan on Wednesday. The National Planning Commission presented the plan, which will come into effect from the upcoming month of Shrawan (a month in the Nepali calendar) and will remain in place for the next five years. The plan includes 40 national goals aimed at achieving prosperity. These goals are divided into three categories: 10 for good governance, 10 for social justice, and 20 for economic prosperity.

Budget is realistic, 6% economic growth achievable: Finance Minister Pun

Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has claimed that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year is based on realistic grounds. Addressing queries about the recently introduced budget at the parliament meeting on Wednesday, Finance Minister Pun asserted that the next fiscal year has been designated as a year of economic reforms, aimed at creating employment opportunities and increasing production to support a robust and uplifting economy.

Arjun Lama murder case: SC verdict on Agni Sapkota related case on June 26

The Supreme Court (SC) is set to announce its verdict on the murder case involving Agni Sapkota, the Vice Chairman of the ruling CPN-Maoist Center, on June 26. Following a hearing by the Constitutional Bench led by Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha on Wednesday, June 26 has been designated as the date for the verdict. The case filed against former Speaker Sapkota, implicated in the murder of Arjun Lama from Kavre, was previously scheduled for trial.

NEPSE drops by 5.58 points on Wednesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) dropped by 5.58 points on Wednesday, the fourth trading day of the week. NEPSE decreased by 0.26 percent to settle at 2079.71 points today. Today’s trading saw trading worth Rs 3.99 billion with 8,042,767 shares traded across 49,733 transactions. Out of 306 companies in the market, the share prices of 83 companies rose, while 158 companies saw a decline in their share prices today. The share prices of 6 companies remained stable.

Triangle project vital for national development: Prime Minister Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has underscored the importance of the triangle project, stating that it will mark a significant and historical milestone for the nation. Speaking at a program organized by the CPN-Maoist Center Gandaki Province in Pokhara today, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted that policies, programs, and the budget for the upcoming fiscal year are being formulated to make a substantial contribution to the development of the provinces. The budget presented by the federal government for the fiscal year 2024/25 prioritizes the transformation of agriculture, development of energy and information technology, promotion of tourism, entrepreneurship, and industrial growth.

Four Chinese nationals arrested with undisclosed source 6.9 million rupees

Police have arrested four Chinese nationals in possession of Rs 6.9 million, the source of which has not been disclosed. The individuals arrested are Zhang Yuan, 32, Ning Haoran, 50, Quo Haoran, 24, and Dinu Liu, 36, all residing in Kathmandu. The arrest occurred on Wednesday evening when police conducted a search of a taxi (Ba 70 Pa 2872) near the Maheshwari petrol pump in Bhaktapur’s Suryabinayak Municipality. The taxi, traveling from Sanga towards Jagati at around 7:00 p.m., was found carrying the cash.
