SC concludes hearing on Agni Sapkota related murder case

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) hearing on the case involving former Speaker and CPN-Maoist Center leader Agni Sapkota concluded on Wednesday.

The SC Full Bench, comprising Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and Justices Prakashman Singh Raut, Sapana Pradhan Malla, Prakash Kumar Dhungana, and Kumar Regmi, completed the hearing today.

Maoist Center leader Agni Sapkota is accused of murdering Kavre’s Arjun Lama. However, Sapkota denies the allegation, claiming that the incident was part of his party’s ‘people’s war.’

Even 18 years after the peace accord, wartime cases related to the then CPN-Maoist remain pending in court.

These cases, which should have been resolved by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, are currently being heard in court.

The Supreme Court may set a date for a summary order or decision today.

Arjun Lama’s wife, Purnimaya Lama, filed a writ petition demanding an investigation into her husband’s murder.

The petition named Agni Sapkota, along with Maoist cadres Suryaman Dong, Yadav Paudel, Bhola Aryal, Karnakar Gautam, and Norbu Moktan, as responsible for the murder.
