KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has clarified that the disbursement of Rs 200 million rupees provided by India will strictly follow a regulated process.
India cannot unilaterally spend the amount, he clarified.
Responding to queries during the State Affairs Committee meeting under the Federal Parliament on Friday morning, he said India cannot allocate the funds on its own.
The statement follows the signing of an agreement on Thursday, in the presence of Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, allowing India to directly invest up to Rs 200 million in Nepali projects.
However, this move has faced opposition from certain quarters.
Prime Minister Dahal outlined the limitations, stating, “The Indian Embassy in Nepal is not permitted to independently spend up to Rs 20 million. The disbursement will strictly follow a regulated process.”
He further clarified, “While it is accurate that the investment starts from Rs 3 million and increases to Rs 5 million, it is not an arbitrary spending spree. There is a meticulous spending process in place, ensuring that India does not invest indiscriminately but adheres to a structured approach.”
