KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Chairperson of Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as ‘Prachanda,’ on Wednesday emphasized the need for a new revolution to achieve good governance and social justice in Nepal.

Speaking at the ‘Republic Soldier Honour’ event organized by the Republic Soldier Trust, Dahal outlined his party’s renewed focus on combating corruption and driving economic prosperity.

Highlighting the party’s primary agenda, Dahal reiterated the push for a directly elected executive presidency as a cornerstone for ensuring a system centered around the people. He also noted the party’s resolve to forge ahead with its distinct identity and agenda while uniting divided Maoist factions to initiate this new wave of change.

Dahal pointed to the recent success in the local-level by-elections as a testament to the party’s capabilities and determination to lead a revolution independently.

Former Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun underscored the hard-fought journey to establishing a republic, urging all to safeguard and build on its achievements.

Echoing these sentiments, senior Maoist leaders Janardan Sharma and Chakrapani Khanal emphasized that the next phase of struggle must prioritize good governance and anti-corruption measures.

The event also saw several leaders and individuals recognized for their roles in establishing the republic. Chairperson Dahal and leaders such as former Vice-President Pun, Janardan Sharma, and Barshaman Pun were honored for their contributions.

The ‘Republic Soldier Honour’ was also awarded to individuals including Gopal Pandey, Surendra Bhujel, Sushila Thapa, and others for their dedication to the republican cause.

As the CPN (Maoist Centre) prepares for its next course of action, Dahal’s call for a new revolution signals a renewed commitment to the principles of social justice and governance reforms.
