Key highways still remain blocked

KATHMANDU: Traffic has yet to resume on five major highways, according to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

The affected highways include the Araniko Highway, BP Highway, Pushpalal (Madhyapahari) Highway, Kanti Rajpath, and Mechi Highway.

The disruptions are primarily due to the collapse of the bridges in Larcha, located 5 km in the Kodari section of the Araniko Highway.

To address this, the Ministry plans to install a human pipe, penstock pipe, and a Bailey bridge in Larcha to facilitate transportation.

On the BP Highway, 12 km of road in the Chowkidanda-Kaldhunga section has completely washed away, halting vehicle movement.

Landslides are being cleared from both sides, and the Ministry aims to restore transport using all available options while monitoring the flow of the Roshi River.

The Pushpalal (Madhyapahari) Highway is also severely impacted, with landslides affecting multiple areas along the 80 km route in the Dolalghat-Rakthum section.

Once the road is cleared, vehicles coming from Bardiwas via BP Highway will be permitted to enter Kathmandu through Dolalghat.

Additionally, landslide clearing is underway in the Ghapeli-Baguwa section of Kanti Rajpath for 13 km.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing to remove debris from Ramite Danda along the 8 km Hewa Bridge on the Ramite-Phidim section of the Mechi Highway, where the ministry intends to construct a temporary diversion in the Hewa River to resume traffic.
