Kathmandu Metropolis honors Palesha for historic Paralympic achievement



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolis has honored Palesha Govardhan, a para-taekwondo athlete, for her historic achievement in the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Palesha secured the first-ever bronze medal in the Women’s K-44, under 57 kg weight category, marking a significant milestone for Nepal.

In a ceremony held today at the Metropolis office, Mayor Balen Shah presented Palesha with a letter of appreciation, while Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol awarded her a cash prize of 500,000 Nepali Rupees.

The event was attended by Metropolitan City Office spokesperson Navin Manandhar, social committee coordinator Ramkumar KC, Taekwondo Association President Prakash Shamsher Rana, Olympian Sangina Baidya, and Palesha’s parents, Panita and Pradeep Govardhan, along with other sports officials and athletes.

Palesha achieved her historic bronze medal last Friday in Paris, France, furthering Nepal’s presence in international sports.
