KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has stated that amending the Constitution is necessary to promote progress and prosperity in the country.

He emphasized that the current political alignment between the two major political parties, the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML), is expected to facilitate the amendment of the Constitution in pursuit of these goals.

Speaking at a party program in Chyasal today, Oli refuted claims that major parties are seeking to amend the Constitution for regressive purposes.

“The Constitution is an amendable document as per the needs of the country and its people,” he asserted.

During the program held at the party’s central office, newly nominated party vice-chair and central members were sworn in.

Oli highlighted that the realization to amend the country’s main law stems from the need to strengthen democracy, enhance its gravity and acceptability, explore additional avenues for development and prosperity, and connect with citizens.

“The Constitution is not unamendable,” he reiterated.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of practicing politics for clean competition and serving citizens.
