KATHMANDU: In a meeting with Ministers of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has sought the party’s support to exercise his constitutional rights.
The meeting took place today at Baluwatar.
PM Dahal urged the RSP Ministers not to resign but instead to support him in the upcoming vote of confidence.
This request comes after the CPN-UML, a coalition partner in Dahal’s government, withdrew its support.
As a result, PM Dahal must now face a vote of confidence within 30 days.
Chief Whip of the RSP, Santosh Pariyar, has advised PM Dahal to face the vote of confidence as soon as possible.
According to sources, PM Dahal is expected to seek a vote of confidence from the parliament within a week.
Despite speculations, the RSP has not withdrawn its support from the government, and its ministers have not resigned.
Earlier, the CPN-UML made an unprecedented move by breaking its alliance with the CPN (Maoist Center) and joining forces with the largest party in the parliament, the Nepali Congress, to form a new government.
This move has left PM Dahal without a majority in parliament and on the verge of a collapse.
