Unified Socialist Convention: Voting taking place today to elect leadership



KATHMANDU; Voting will take place today to elect the leadership of the Unified Socialist Party in Kathmandu.

The 10th National Convention of the Unified Socialist Party is electing its new leadership today.

The current Chairman, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and the General Secretary, Ghanashyam Bhusal, are competing for the presidency of the Unified Socialist Party.

Since Madhav Nepal intends to retain the presidency, Jhalanath Khanal’s faction is endorsing Bhusal.

Efforts are being made to achieve consensus in selecting the leadership; however, if consensus cannot be reached, voting will determine the outcome.

On the third day of the convention, various documents presented were approved on Wednesday.

According to Party Secretary JiwanramShrestha, the representatives have approved political, socialist programs, statutes, and organizational documents with suggestions.

The convention has tasked the election board with electing a new working committee.

The convention will elect a 299-member Central Committee with 21 office bearers.

Electronic equipment will facilitate the voting process, with 1,849 representatives trained to use electronic devices for voting.
