India Election Update: NDA leads in over 300 seats, opposition INDIA alliance in 200

KATHMANDU: The vote count for the India Lok Sabha election is currently in progress.

Early trends indicate that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading in more than 300 seats, while the opposition INDIA alliance, led by the Congress party, is ahead in nearly 200 seats, according to the BBC.

A party or alliance needs to win more than 272 seats in the 543-member parliament to form the government.

The world’s largest election, conducted over seven phases across six weeks, saw almost a billion registered voters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aiming for a rare third consecutive term for himself and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Over two dozen opposition parties have united to challenge PM Modi and the BJP, hoping to overturn the predictions of exit polls.
