EDV 2025 results announced today

The results of the United States Electronic Diversity Visa (EDV) lottery for the year 2025 was made public today i.e. May 4, Saturday. The results of the EDV were published this evening at 9:45 pm. Starting May 4, 2024, at 9:45 PM, an individual who has filled up the EDV form will be able to check the status of his/her entry by entering his/her confirmation number at dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/. The results can be viewed using the confirmation number obtained at the time of filling out the EDV. DV-2023 entrants should keep their confirmation number safe until at least September 30, 2024.

Temperatures likely to drop across nation starting today

Meteorologists have predicted a welcomed respite from the summer heat as temperatures are set to drop across the nation starting today (Saturday). Saroj Pudasaini, a meteorologist from the Weather Forecasting Division, attributed this shift to heightened activity in the westerly wind compared to yesterday (Friday). “The westerly wind’s vigor has ushered clouds from Nepal’s western regions since Friday night, prompting a significant change in weather nationwide,” Pudasaini explained. According to him, there will be a gradual decrease in the scorching sun throughout the day, accompanied by a noticeable dip in temperatures, offering a reprieve from the sweltering heat.

11 ministers opt to keep their property details secret

Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a vocal advocate for good governance, now finds himself under scrutiny as questions arise about the undisclosed wealth of his cabinet members, including himself. In a departure from past practices, none of the 23 ministers in the Dahal-led government have made their assets public, leaving citizens in the dark about the extent of their holdings. Even Prime Minister Dahal has opted to keep his property details private. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, despite his claims of being a proponent of transparency, has failed to disclose his assets, continuing a trend of secrecy even during his tenure as Home Minister.

Sudurpaschim provincial assembly meeting for CM Sodari’s vote of confidence postponed for second time

The Sudurpaschim provincial assembly meeting called to address the vote of confidence for Chief Minister (CM) Dhirga Bahadur Sodari has once again been postponed, this time on Saturday. The meeting, which was initially rescheduled for 5 PM today due to uncertainty surrounding CM Sodari’s confidence vote on Friday, has been delayed indefinitely. The provincial assembly secretariat, citing a missing notice, has announced the postponement until further notice.

Nepal clinches victory over West Indies ‘A’ by six wickets 

Nepal secured a commanding six-wicket victory over West Indies ‘A’ in the final match of the T20 series, with an over to spare. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, West Indies ‘A’ set a target of 173 runs, losing seven wickets in the process. In pursuit of the target, Nepal showcased a strong batting performance, reaching 173 runs for the loss of four wickets in the 19th over. Although West Indies ‘A’ had already claimed the series with a 3-2 lead, this victory serves as a consolation for Nepal.

Madhesh Province: 1,200 fire incidents reported in last nine month

Madhesh Province has witnessed a concerning surge with 1,200 reported fire incidents over the past nine months, resulting in significant loss of life and property. According to the Madhesh Province Police Office, these incidents claimed the lives of 20 individuals and left 120 others injured. The fires ravaged 561 houses and caused the destruction of properties worth 440 million rupees in the province during this period. Among the eight districts in the province, Siraha recorded the highest number of incidents with 216, while Sarlahi reported the lowest at 104.

Bhangaha-Janakpur-Jaynagar rail service suspended for three days 

The Bhangaha-Janakpur-Jaynagar railway service will be suspended for three days due to the closure of the India-Nepal border during the Lok Sabha Election in India. As per the decision of the Border District Coordination Committee to seal the Indo-Nepal International Border, the railway service will be completely shut down from Sunday to Tuesday, informed Niranjan Jha, manager of Nepal Railway Company.
