KATHMANDU: In a stunning display of batting prowess, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) set a new record in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) history, overpowering the Delhi Capitals (DC) by a massive 106-run margin.
Constructing a monumental score of 272 for seven along the coast of Visakhapatnam, KKR’s batting onslaught was nothing short of spectacular.
Led by Sunil Narine’s explosive innings, which saw him notch up 85 runs, KKR’s performance left spectators in awe.
Narine’s innings, which commenced with a gentle single off his sixth delivery, quickly escalated into a barrage of boundaries and sixes.
Partnering with the young talent Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who impressed with his proper technique and innovative stroke play, Narine orchestrated a partnership of 104 runs in just 48 balls.
Raghuvanshi, batting for the first time in an IPL match, showcased maturity beyond his years, contributing a blistering 54 runs off 25 balls.
Their partnership, characterized by a blend of modern T20 batting and classical stroke play, propelled KKR to a formidable total.
Even after Narine’s departure, the onslaught continued, with Andre Russell and Rinku Singh’s aggressive batting adding to DC’s woes.
Despite a valiant effort by DC’s batsmen, including Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs, KKR’s dominant performance proved insurmountable.
Vaibhav Arora emerged as the standout bowler for KKR, delivering a spell of three for 27, effectively complemented by Mitchell Starc and Varun Chakaravarthy’s contributions.
With this emphatic victory, KKR not only secured their third win in as many matches in the 2024 season but also etched their name in IPL history with the second-highest team score ever recorded, surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore’s previous record.
As the tournament progresses, KKR’s formidable batting lineup and bowling prowess signal their status as a force to be reckoned with in the competition.
