NC shifts to opposition as Deuba accuses PM Dahal of betrayal

KATHMANDU: Amid the government reshuffle, Nepali Congress (NC) said it would assume the role of the main opposition, citing betrayal by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

Prime Minister Dahal has altered the political landscape by revising the ruling alliance.

Consequently, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, finds his party relegated to the opposition.

The decision to realign with the CPN-UML was confirmed by Prime Minister Dahal, who also chairs the Maoist Center.

This move prompted at least four ministers from CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Rastriya Swatantra Party, to take their oaths today.

Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak disclosed that during a meeting of party office bearers at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha, it was unanimously decided that the Nepali Congress would now assume the role of the opposition.

Following the meeting, Deuba conveyed his decision to remain in the opposition.

He detailed that Prime Minister Dahal’s actions were perceived as a betrayal of the alliance, leading to the Nepali Congress’s shift to the opposition bench.
