KATHMANDU: A recent meeting within the ruling alliance has hinted at a possible agreement to allocate six seats to the main opposition party, CPN-UML, in the upcoming National Assembly election. The catch? The allocation is contingent on the UML’s support for passing the Transitional Justice (TRC) bill before the election.

During the meeting, discussions were held on seat allocation for the UML, but a conclusive decision was not reached, as reported by Rajendra Pandey, the Vice-Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist). He emphasized that collaboration with the UML hinges on the precondition of passing the TRC bill ahead of the election.

The CPN-UML has reportedly demanded six seats in the National Assembly election scheduled for January 25. However, Madhav Kumar Nepal, a key leader of the coalition, has expressed reservations about sharing seats with the UML and boycotted the meeting, stating that seat-sharing discussions with the UML are not on the table.

The coalition members plan to reconvene for a later meeting to further deliberate on the matter.
