Shekhar Koirala faction defies party directive, holds meeting in Biratnagar

BIRATNAGAR:  The faction of Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala began its meeting in Biratnagar, defying instructions from the party establishment.

The gathering, organized at Jain Bhawan, includes municipal leaders from Koshi Province aligned with Koirala’s group.

The party’s central office had issued a directive yesterday, instructing all district presidents in Koshi Province to refrain from organizing any meetings before the official provincial conference scheduled for December 7.

Krishna Prasad Paudel, Chief Secretary of the Nepali Congress central office, had communicated this directive.

The official conference is being prepared under the leadership of Koshi Provincial Committee President Uddhav Thapa, who is aligned with the establishment faction.

Despite this, the Koirala group scheduled their meeting in Biratnagar for today and tomorrow, bringing together municipal leaders from the province.

Thapa stated that he was unaware of any programs besides the officially sanctioned conference.

However, Deepak Chapagain, a Koirala faction leader  claimed that municipal leaders from across the province, including five metropolitan leaders, were attending the event.

The meeting, organized by local committees from all 17 municipalities of Morang District, has excluded participants from the establishment faction.

The divide within the party has become evident, with both sides pushing forward their agendas in parallel.
