Nepal and India discuss advancing petroleum infrastructure projects

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Minister for Industries, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, met with India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, in New Delhi on Monday to discuss bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

Key topics included the construction of two major petroleum pipelines under the new infrastructure plan: the Siliguri-Jhapa pipeline and the Amlekhgunj-Chitwan pipeline.

The discussions also addressed the Sarlahi gas pipeline, the relocation of the fuel depot at Tribhuvan International Airport, and the collaboration between Nepal Oil Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

Minister Puri assured that India is ready to extend assistance upon receiving an integrated report on these projects. Both sides also agreed to hold regular meetings of bilateral government mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of past agreements and foster ongoing cooperation.

Minister Bhandari expressed appreciation for India’s commitment to Nepal’s socio-economic development and noted the importance of these energy initiatives for enhancing bilateral ties and regional connectivity.
