Rabi Lamichhane’s supporters demand his release in Chitwan

KATHMANDU: Supporters of Rabi Lamichhane staged a protest in Bharatpur on Tuesday after the Rastriya Swatantra Party chair was brought to Chitwan to record his statement in connection with the alleged embezzlement of funds from the Chitwan Sahara Multipurpose Cooperative.

Gathering outside the Agriculture Office in Bharatpur, Lamichhane’s supporters chanted slogans demanding his release and decrying what they called a “political vendetta.”

Protesters shouted, “Release Rabi Lamichhane” and “Stop political vendetta,” alleging unfair targeting of their leader.

The demonstration was curtailed by police when the protesters attempted to march beyond the Agriculture Office. According to authorities, minimal force was used to maintain order.

Lamichhane was transferred from Kathmandu to Chitwan to provide his statement regarding the cooperative funds embezzlement case.

The case has drawn significant public attention, with victims filing supplementary complaints implicating 10 individuals, including prominent figures such as Lamichhane.

Lamichhane’s legal team has yet to issue a detailed response, but his supporters continue to demand justice, intensifying the public scrutiny of the case.
