US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu concluding South Asia trip with visit to Nepal

KATHMANDU: US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, is set to visit Nepal as part of his South Asia tour.

According to a statement from the US Department of State, Lu will travel to India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal from December 3 to December 10.

The trip aims to strengthen partnerships with key South Asian nations to promote regional security and economic growth.

Lu will wrap up his journey in Kathmandu, where he will meet with senior Nepalese leaders to discuss collaboration on environmental protection, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development.

He will also engage with youth leaders to learn about their vision for the future of US-Nepal relations.

The visit will highlight the importance of preserving Nepal’s cultural heritage, which plays a vital role in both the country’s identity and its tourism sector.

In India, Lu will work to enhance US-India cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. He will participate in the US-India East Asia Consultations alongside Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink.

These discussions, along with separate meetings with senior Indian officials, will provide a platform to exchange views on global and regional matters.

On December 5, Lu will head to Colombo, Sri Lanka, to advance US-Sri Lanka efforts focused on sustainable economic growth, anti-corruption measures, and strengthening people-to-people ties.

He will be joined by USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth for meetings with Sri Lanka’s new government and civil society representatives.
