CHITWAN: Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who faces charges of embezzling funds from a cooperative, has been brought to Chitwan today.

Lamichhane was transported directly from Kathmandu to Chitwan for questioning, following the registration of a supplementary application with the Chitwan Police regarding the alleged embezzlement of funds from Sahara Chitwan Cooperative Limited.

His statement was completed yesterday at the District Government Attorney’s Office in Kathmandu.

The Chitwan Police had previously issued a request for Lamichhane’s transfer from the District Police Office in Pokhara to Chitwan for further questioning.

The District Court has also granted permission for his statement to be taken in Chitwan.

Chitwan Chief District Officer, Prakash Poudel, confirmed that Lamichhane is scheduled to arrive in Chitwan by flight this morning.

However, the police have not disclosed which flight will be used to bring him.

On Sunday, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi and Ram Bahadur Khanal, both accused of embezzling funds from Sahara Chitwan Cooperative, were brought to Chitwan. Their statements were completed yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) District Committee in Chitwan held a meeting yesterday and is preparing to protest against Lamichhane’s arrest starting today.

RSP District President Krishna Bhusal stated that the district committee, initially composed of just two members, has now expanded to 23 members.

He also shared that they have developed an internal strategy for the planned protests in Chitwan against the arrest of their party Chairman.
