Galkot Municipality alarmed over rising dengue, scrub typhus cases

GALKOT: Twenty-six cases of dengue infection have been confirmed in Baglung district since July 16 this year, with 24 cases reported in Galkot municipality alone.

Public Health Inspector at the District Health Office, Dev Prakash Ghimire, stated that Galkot is now at high risk of dengue and scrub typhus.

Approximately a dozen people suffering from these diseases are currently receiving treatment at Galkot Municipal Hospital.

According to Suhil Poudel, Chief of the Municipal Health Section, five new cases of dengue and scrub typhus are being confirmed daily.

Since mid-July, 41 cases of dengue and 17 cases of scrub typhus have been recorded in Galkot.

Poudel noted that while most infected individuals are in stable condition and staying at home, those with critical conditions are undergoing treatment at the municipal hospital.

“We launched a search and destroy campaign in mid-June, but dengue infection is on the rise,” Poudel expressed with concern.

Until two years ago, the municipal hospital did not have the facility to conduct blood tests for dengue and scrub typhus.
