UML likely to withdraw support from government today

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML is set to withdraw its support from the government today.

A UML secretariat meeting on Tuesday evening urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to resign by the end of the day.

However, with PM Dahal refusing to step down, the UML is preparing to withdraw its support.

“Since the two largest parties in Parliament have decided to proceed together, it would be best for the Prime Minister to resign and cooperate. His numbers are insufficient to run the government,” said UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, adding, “If he chooses to follow the process, we will withdraw our support today, and our ministers will resign.”

A decision on withdrawing support and the resignation of UML ministers will be made after 3 PM today.

On Monday, the NC and UML reached an agreement to form a new government.

According to the agreement, UML Chairman KP Oli will become the Prime Minister first.
