KATHMANDU: Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has sued nine people, including Godawari Municipality Mayor Gajendra Maharjan on corruption allegations.
According to assistant spokesperson of CIAA, Devi Prasad Thapaliya, Mayor Maharjan, Deputy Mayor Muna Adhikari, along with former chief administrative officer, former chief of revenue department of the municipality, and five directors of the companies have been accused of corruption involving five different cases.
They are accused of causing financial loss to the government by selling/distributing gravel and sand at rates lower than the government’s prescribed rates.
When contracts were awarded, they allegedly manipulated rates lower than the provincial economic law, causing losses to the province and municipality governments.
CIAA claimed that the accused caused the loss worth Rs1.87 billion in the tenders for mining gravel/sand and boulders etc. from FY 2075/76 to 2079/80.
Maharjan was elected to the post of Mayor representing Nepali Congress.
He was also elected as the Mayor of Godavari Municipality in the 2074.
