Finance Minister Pun: No changes in tax rate under pressure

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun has reiterated that tax rates for the upcoming fiscal year will only be adjusted based on necessity and relevance, dismissing any influence or pressure from external parties.

In a meeting with youth industrialists and IT experts at his office on Friday, Minister Pun assured that tax rates may be subject to change based on recommendations from experts.

However, he emphasized that such adjustments would be made solely for the benefit of the economy and not under any undue influence.

Minister Pun highlighted the government’s policy to prioritize development plans aligned with the country’s geographical location, natural resources, and workforce.

He commended the progress achieved in sectors such as tourism, energy, and cement industries over the past decade and a half.

Furthermore, Minister Pun disclosed the government’s intention to prioritize information technology, startup initiatives, and innovation in its development agenda.

He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to boost economic growth, especially considering Nepal’s modest 4.23 percent economic growth rate over the last three decades.

Moreover, Minister Pun emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating investments in Nepal, citing recent legislative changes aimed at providing incentives and assurances of profitability to firms investing in the country.
