KATHMANDU: Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has underscored the indispensable role of press freedom in completing the democratic framework.

Speaking on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, she emphasized the pivotal role of free press and expression in ensuring the vitality of democracy.

Minister Sharma conveyed her wishes on this day, extending her regards to the media fraternity and beyond.

She offered a solemn homage to the martyrs who made ultimate sacrifices in the pursuit of press freedom, as well as to those who played crucial roles in advancing the cause, even amid injury or disability.

Since its inception in response to a United Nations General Assembly resolution in 1993, World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on May 3rd, resonates globally, including in Nepal.

Minister Sharma expressed optimism that commemorating this day would inspire ongoing efforts to bolster press freedom, informed by reflections on past challenges and achievements.
