Heavy snowfall hit Mustang, Humla and Bajura

MUSTANG: Heavy snowfall accompanied by rainfall has been reported in various parts of Mustang, Humla and Bajura.

Snowfall since Tuesday night has completely covered the hills and ridges of Mustang in white. Rainfall has also occurred in most areas. Due to heavy snowfall, the Kagbeni–Korala road has been blocked, with snow accumulation exceeding two feet in some places.

Roshan Thakali, Chief of the Agriculture Section at Gharpajhong Rural Municipality, said farmers are hopeful that the snowfall will help winter crops such as apples, naked barley, buckwheat, barley and potatoes thrive.

Similarly, continuous heavy snowfall has been reported in Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, Jumla and Kalikot since Tuesday night. According to Shankar Khadka, Chief of the District Police Office, around one foot of snow has accumulated in high-altitude areas, including the district headquarters Simikot.

The snowfall has disrupted air services and blocked roads linking Limy, Nyalu, Yari and Hilsa.

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall has also occurred in highland areas of Bajura, including Badimalika, Budhiganga Triveni, Budhinanda Municipality, Himali, Khaptad Chhededaha, Gaumul, Swamikartik and Jagannath rural municipalities.

Daily life has been affected in areas such as Bichhya, Rugin and Bandhu of Himali, Allis and Dahakot of Gaumul, and Kuru village of Budhinanda. Following rainfall and snowfall, wheat crops are expected to improve, said Jasiram Sahani, Chief of the Agricultural Knowledge Centre.
