Gandaki Province Chief sets deadline for govt formation amid CM’s resignation

KATHMANDU: Following the resignation of Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, the Province Chief of Gandaki Province has called upon political parties to assert their claim to the Chief Minister’s post within the next seven days.

The deadline, set for April 9 at 3 PM, aims to expedite the process of government formation in the province as per Article 168 of the Constitution of Nepal.

This article mandates the appointment of a Chief Minister by the Province Chief, based on the majority support garnered by the leader of the parliamentary party in the Provincial Assembly.

In instances where no single party commands a clear majority, the Province Chief is authorized to appoint a Chief Minister who can secure a majority with the backing of two or more parties represented in the Provincial Assembly.
