Banks in Nepal are secure: Governor Adhikari

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Banak (NRB) Governor, Maha Prasad Adhikari, has assured that Nepal’s banks are secure.

Speaking in a meeting of the Finance Committee under House of Representatives on Sunday, Governor Adhikari informed that Nepal’s banks are being monitored by NRB and are in a secure position.

He emphasized that foreign banks have confidence in Nepal, evidenced by their continued trust in Nepali banks.

Governor Adhikari raised concerns about unauthorized activities in the market affecting loan disbursement.

While acknowledging the challenges, he expressed his commitment to control unauthorized activities and maintain a state where there is no excessive demand for loans and no disruption in the flow of loans.

He mentioned the ongoing efforts to strengthen the banking sector and regulatory bodies, preventing unwarranted influences.

Governor Adhikari revealed that the liquidity available for investment in banks is currently at Rs 600 billion, and the non-performing loan ratio has reached 3.40 percent.
