KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has reached out to both the ruling alliance and the main opposition party to garner support for passing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) bill.
Earlier today, PM Dahal held separate meetings with Sher Bahadur Deuba and KP Oli to discuss the matter.
Sources indicate that PM Dahal expressed willingness to offer the post of National Assembly Chairman to CPN-UML on the condition of support from the opposition party to pass the TRC bill.
However, the Nepali Congress, the main coalition party of the government, has reportedly disagreed with this proposal, as stated by an office bearer of CPN (Maoist Center) speaking with Khabarhub.
“If we are to pass the TRC bill, the party is now in a position to offer the post of NA Chairman to UML,” the source further added.
PM Dahal has assured Oli that he will discuss the matter with coalition members.
The election of the NA Chair is scheduled for March 12, with both the CPN (Maoist Center) and NC announcing their candidacy for the post.
