Impact Up ignites entrepreneurial sparks at Kathmandu University: A collaborative leap towards Nepal’s economic future

KATHMANDU: The Hult Prize at Kathmandu University successfully hosted “Impact Up: Startup and SMEs Meet” on January 25, 2024, in collaboration with Energize Nepal and Kathmandu University Business Incubation Center (KUBIC).

The event, held at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, brought together 21 startups, SMEs, and KU students, fostering discussions on the future of entrepreneurship in Nepal.

Guided by Prarabda Singh Mahat, Deputy Campus Director of Hult Prize at Kathmandu University, “Impact Up” served as a pivotal platform for students and entrepreneurs, encouraging transformative change and collaborative discussions on the future of entrepreneurship in Nepal.

The event aimed to boost the social entrepreneurship, startups, and SMEs ecosystem in the country.

Generously sponsored by the Canadian Study Centre (CSC), the event featured Kailash Palanchoki, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce in Kavre, FNCCI, who shared insights into the startup spirit, revealing a fascinating duality in perspectives.

Ramesh Ghimire, Faculty Advisor, highlighted KU’s commitment to entrepreneurship through practical projects, incubation, and grants.

The event kicked off with an ice-breaking session, allowing entrepreneurs to introduce themselves authentically. Round table discussions facilitated open conversations about the challenges and victories in entrepreneurship, creating a vibrant exchange of experiences.

A panel discussion led by industry experts Puspa Bhattarai and Anushka Bhattarai focused on crucial aspects such as startup ecosystem dynamics, the current economy, and crisis management.

The company information session provided a concise platform for each participating company to share their vision, business plan, and sector specifics.

The open mic session allowed entrepreneurs and SMEs to engage in unscripted dialogue, fostering the exchange of ideas and mutual feedback.

Behind the scenes, the organizing committee, composed of students from Kathmandu University and Nepal College of Management, played a crucial role in ensuring the event’s success.

Their diligent planning resulted in a seamless flow, fostering an environment where innovation thrived.

The impact of “Impact Up” extends beyond discussions, sowing seeds of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a shared vision for a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem.
