Arun Chaudhary ready to return land amidst Bansbari Leather Shoe Factory land scandal

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has officially recorded the statement of Arun Chaudhary, who was recently arrested in connection with the Bansbari-based Leather Shoe Factory land scandal.

Arun Chaudhary, brother of billionaire and Member of Parliament Binod Chaudhary, faces allegations of transferring the ownership of 10 Ropanis of government land to individual names for personal gains.

Chaudhary Group, accused of operating the Champions Footwear Company within the Leather Shoe Factory compound, allegedly transferred the land ownership to the company.

Currently, the site is hosting the Hand Bagh School. Arun Chaudhary, during his statement to the CIB, expressed his willingness to return the land to the government.

SSP Dinesh Acharya of the CIB revealed that the Champions Footwear Company was established in an agreement where 25 percent share was supposed to be provided to the Leather Shoe Factory.

As per the agreement, Chaudhary Group was allowed to invest 12 lakhs rupees.

However, investigations have shown that he invested 26 lakhs rupees, equivalent to the cost of 10 Ropanis of the land.

Arun Chaudhary, along with the then Chairman of the Factory Ajit Narayan Singh Thapa and Chairman of CG Chand Bhag Residency Pvt. Ltd Sanjay Thakur, were recently arrested in connection with the Bansbari Leather Shoe Factory land scandal.
