Ruling coalition meeting convened for NA seats discussion ends inconclusively

The meeting of ruling coalition parties regarding the allocation of seats for the National Assembly elections ended without reaching a consensus.

The coalition leaders had reached Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar for the meeting on Wednesday evening.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal ‘Prachanda’ shared CPN-UML Chair KP Oli’s request to include UML in the seat sharing in the election.

Dissatisfaction within ruling coalition, minor parties warn to quit government

Dissatisfaction is looming among smaller parties over the Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist Center’s readiness to accommodate the CPN-UML in the name of consensus for the National Assembly (NA) election.

The Janata Samajbadi, CPN-Unified Socialist, and Janamat Party maintain that they won’t collaborate with the UML in the NA election. They express resentment, having been left out even in recent coalition meetings.

One component of the coalition, the Janamat Party Chairman Dr. CK Raut, raised his displeasure over not being invited to the coalition meeting. He remarks, “Where does the opportunity for people of the Madhes go in power? All significant and older leaders claim their rights.”

UML Chair Oli reaches Baluwatar to discuss NA Election with NC and Maoist Center leaders

CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli reached Baluwatar to discuss the National Assembly elections with leaders from the Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Center.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had previously engaged in discussions with leaders from four ruling parties. Soon after that, UML Chairman Oli arrived in Baluwatar.

Coalition leaders confer at Baluwatar to allocate NA election seats

The top leaders of coalition parties have commenced discussions at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar to strategize seat distribution in forthcoming National Assembly (NA) elections.

The session kicked off at 3:30 pm.

Top leaders from Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, Unified Socialist Party, and Janata Samajwadi Party are engaged in these deliberations.

Prior to this meeting, discussions were held between the top brass of Nepali Congress and the Maoist Center on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The primary agenda revolved around finalizing seat allocations for the January 25 NA elections.

Judicial Council appoints 39 Judges to High Courts nationwide

The Judicial Council has finalized the appointment of 39 judges to several High Courts spanning the country.

During its session on Wednesday, the council reached a decision to fill these judicial positions within the High Courts.

Out of the appointed judges, a substantial count of 26 hails from the existing pool of officials serving as district judges, showcasing a considerable internal elevation within the judiciary.

Moreover, in a ‘move’ to incorporate expertise from the legal realm, the Council strategically selected 9 proficient legal practitioners to assume the role of judges in the High Courts.

PM Dahal stresses the need for developing an innovative agricultural system

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has pointed out the need to promote an innovation-oriented agricultural system for the country’s prosperity.

Addressing a program entitled ‘Present Status and the Future of Sustainable Development’ held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar today, he opined that the country’s prosperity is not possible with the traditional style of the agricultural system.

PM Dahal stressed the need to adopt a modern agriculture system, stating that employment creation, production growth, and import substitution are possible through the development of the agriculture sector. He reiterated that agriculture alone is the main basis for the sustainable development of Nepal.

Koshi Province falls short as APF clinches PM Cup Women’s Cricket Trophy

The Armed Police Force Club emerged victorious, clinching the prestigious PM Cup Women’s National Cricket Trophy by defeating Koshi Province in a nail-biting final match played today.

In a remarkable display of skill and strategy, APF secured the win with an 11-run lead.

Having batted first, APF set a target of 115 runs for Koshi Province, showcasing a commendable performance by scoring 114 runs within the allocated overs, losing seven wickets in the process. Indu Barma played a pivotal role, notching up a half-century with one six and six fours in her 47-ball innings.

In response, Koshi Province managed to score 103 runs, losing four wickets within the stipulated overs. Opener Rubina Chhetri contributed significantly with a half-century, scoring 62 runs.

Health ministry cautions public against new COVID-19 variant amid rising cases

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has issued a cautionary advisory regarding the new JN.1 variant of COVID-19, particularly as cases surge in the southern neighbor, India.

In a press statement, the ministry has urged everyone to adopt preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of avoiding large gatherings, maintaining hand sanitation, practicing physical distancing, and wearing masks.

While the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the JN.1 coronavirus strain as a “variant of interest,” it reassures that the variant does not pose a significant threat to public health. Instances of this new variant have been identified in various countries, including the USA, India, UK, and China.

Although Nepal has observed an increase in COVID-19 cases at India-Nepal border points, the presence of the JN.1 variant has not been confirmed yet.

Third Investment Summit rescheduled for April 28-29

The Third International Investment Summit, initially scheduled for April 21-22, has been rescheduled to take place on April 28 and 29.

Sushil Bhatta, the Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board and member secretary of the Investment Summit Steering Committee, informed the RSS that the date for the Summit has been rescheduled. The revised schedule is set to be endorsed during the second meeting of the Steering Committee at the Finance Ministry today.

The Steering Committee, led by Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, is responsible for approving the schedule and format of the Summit, identifying areas for policy reforms to enhance the investment atmosphere, and overseeing all aspects of the Summit.

Dhakal recommended as Chief Registrar of Supreme Court

The Judicial Commission (JC) has chosen to elevate Devendra Raj Dhakal to the position of Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court (SC).

Currently serving as the Secretary of the Judicial Council, Dhakal’s promotion follows the vacancy left by Lal Bahadur Kunwar, the previous Chief Registrar who assumed the role of a High Court judge.

The term for the Chief Registrar is set at three years, marking a tenure in the highest echelons of the judiciary.

Meanwhile, Bimal Paudel, the current Associate Registrar of the Supreme Court, is poised to step into the role of Registrar, as recommended by the Commission.

NEPSE index records double digit surge in Wednesday’s trading

The Nepali Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged into double digits on Wednesday, marking the third trading day of the week.

The NEPSE index soared by 27.90 points today, stabilizing at 2,058.

Trading activity witnessed 1,050,498 shares from 306 companies, amounting to NPR 4,048,857,454.

All sub-indices across different sectors experienced growth. The hydropower sub-index rose by 3.08, and the production and processing sub-index by 2.08. Seven company shares hit the positive circuit limit during today’s trading.
