Govt to initiate inclusion of Nepal Bhasa in school curriculum: PM Oli

BHAKTAPUR: Prime Minister KP Oli has said that the government will take steps to integrate Nepal Bhasa into the school curriculum.

During a ceremony where he honored the statue of Shankhadhar Sakhwa, the founder of Nepal Sambat and a national figure, at Sankhadhar Sakhwa Chowk in Madhyapur Thimi, PM Oli emphasized his commitment to safeguarding language, culture, and civilization both personally and in his official capacity.

At an event organized by the Shankhadhar Sakhwa Foundation, he noted that the foundation’s legitimate requests would be gradually addressed within the state’s capabilities.

“The Foundation has requested that Nepal Bhasa be included as an optional subject at the secondary level, similar to how Maithili and Bhojpuri are offered. However, a formal announcement cannot be made today without a decision being reached,” PM Oli added.

Recognizing Bhaktapur as a living museum, he reiterated the government’s dedication to preserving the area’s historical arts and culture.

Additionally, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, remarked that Shankhadhar Sakhwa embodied patriotism and nationalism during his time.

Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi, Surendra Shrestha, announced that the municipality will host the Madhyapur festival in the Nepali month of Poush to promote the district’s historical arts, culture, and traditions globally.
