Speaker Ghimire extends best wishes on Nepal Sambat 1145



KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has wished for happiness, prosperity, peace and good health and progress to all the Nepalis home and abroad on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1145, the New Year of Newar community.

In a message of best wishes today, Speaker Ghimire said Nepal Sambat would inspire to bring success, new enthusiasm and excitement in the lives of all the Nepalis. He expressed the belief that this New Year would foster harmony, brotherhood and tolerance among all Nepalis.

“Nepal Sambat (Newa Sambat) is the main traditional Sambat of Nepal, which represents Nepal’s cultural and historical identity. Mainly, this Sambat is connected with economic independence and social reform of Newar community”, reads the message.

“Specially, Nepal Sambat is popular in Newar community and it has significant contribution in protection of Nepal’s originality and cultural prosperity”, he shared.

The government of Nepal recognized Nepal Sambat in 2065 BS. Nepal Sambat was started by Shankhadhar Sakhwa by relieving the people of Nepal off debt in 937 BS. The government in 2056 BS had declared Sakhwa as the national luminary.
