KATHMANDU: Properties worth around Rs 300 million of telephone and internet service providers were damaged from landslide, floods and inundation triggered by the recent incessant rainfall in the country.
According to Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), though the details of losses of internet service providers have not been received yet preliminary estimates show that property worth around Rs 220 million of two telephone service providers—Nepal Telecommunication Company Ltd and Axiata Limited (Ncell) were damaged.
The disaster has damaged property worth Rs 150 million of NTC while around seven million rupees of Ncell.
“Details of loss caused by recent disaster of 15 internet service providers have been collected so far.
It is estimated that property of around Rs 70 million of such companies has been damaged”, said Assistant Spokesperson of NTA, Dr Pradip Paudyal.
Telephone and internet service at many places of the country were disrupted due to obstruction of power supply following landslide, flood, lightning and inundation, he shared.
Paudyal mentioned that telecommunication service has resumed gradually with the resumption of power supply.
