Eight arrested in Sarlahi for counterfeit currency operation

SARLAHI: Police have arrested eight individuals involved in producing counterfeit currency in Sarlahi.

According to SP Rabindra Bahadur Singh from the District Police Office in Sarlahi, the arrests were made on Saturday night in Godaita Municipality-12 Madhubani village, located near the Indian border.

The suspects were found with equipment used for making fake notes.

The individuals arrested are Saugat Thapa Magar from Chandragiri Municipality-15 in Kathmandu; Bijay Lama from Kageshwari Manohara -6; Sanjay Rana Magar from Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality-1; Amir Khatri from Changunarayan Municipality-5 in Bhaktapur; Subodh Kumar from Bairganiya Village; Rajiv Thakuralso known as Pappu; Janardhan Singh from Godaita Municipality-12 Madhubani in Sarlahi; and Bishal Rai, 37, from Chandrapur in Rautahat.

SP Singh stated that the arrests followed a tip-off regarding counterfeit currency production in an abandoned house intended for irrigation boreholes in Madhubani.

A team from the area police office in Gahdiya, the Madhubani village police station, and the Armed Police Force Nepal Border Out Post (BOP) in Madhubani conducted the operation.

At the scene, the police seized 14 sheets of paper cut to the size of 1000 rupee notes, eight liters of various colored chemicals, 95,805 Nepali rupees in cash, 10 mobile phones, a Nepali Scorpio vehicle, and two Indian motorcycles.

SP Singh stated that the Sarlahi District Court has granted an extension for the investigation by 10 days.

“We are currently investigating how they were producing the fake notes,” SP Singh added.
