Sudurpaschim Province Chief calls for stake in new government formation

KATHMANDU: Following the resignation of Chief Minister Dirgha Sodari on Friday, Province Chief Najir Miya has summoned political parties to stake their claim to form a new government.

Parties interested in staking their claim must do so by 5 PM on Sunday, according to a press statement issued by the Office of the Province Chief.

CM Sodari announced his resignation in an address to the provincial assembly, ahead of a scheduled vote of confidence that he was unlikely to win.

The provincial assembly currently consists of 53 members: 18 from the Nepali Congress, 11 from UML, 11 from the Maoist Center (including the Speaker), seven from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, four from CPN (US), one from RPP, and one independent lawmaker.

An agreement between the Nepali Congress and UML stipulates that the Nepali Congress will now lead the government in Sudurpaschim Province.
